PSV v Liverpool 29th January 2025: UEFA Champions League Preview

PSV Eindhoven will host Liverpool in round 8 of the league phase of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening at the Philips Stadion.

Liverpool have already qualified for the knockout stages of the competition whilst PSV sit 19th just one point inside the knockout playoff places.

Everything you need to know ahead of this Wednesday night clash in the UEFA Champions League can be found below:

Team Form

Coming into this match Liverpool are unbeaten in their last five matches in all competitions (4 W,1 D) and are one of two clubs to have qualified for the knockout stages already.

PSV have a mixed record coming into the match (3 W, 1 D, 1 L) and have been unable to keep a clean sheet in their past five games. A win for the Dutch side will be crucial if they want to remain within the playoff places for the knockout stage.

Team News

Liverpool are set to be without Diogo Jota (Muscle Strain) and Joe Gomez (Hamstring Injury) as well as doubts over Curtis Jones who was absent against Ipswich on the weekend with a knock.

PSV are without the suspended Ryan Flamingo who picked up a red card against FK Crvena Zvezda. They are also without Adamo Nagalo (Shoulder Injury), Malik Tillman (Ankle Injury) and Sergino Dest (Knee Injury).

Players to Watch

Liverpool

With Liverpool already qualifying for the knockout stages expect a large rotation from Arne Slot. Slot has been vocal this week about Dominik Szoboszlai and the Hungarian’s performances.

With three goals and two assists in twenty games so far this season Szoboszlai’s efforts have been rooted further than goal involvements.

Whether it’s his attacking efforts in enabling others in possession or his running miles around the pitch expect the Hungarian to have a lasting impact on the match.

PSV

Guus Till has been at the forefront of anything positive when it comes to PSV’s attacking output in games. The 27-year-old has picked up nine goals and seven assists in all competitions this season.

The Dutch Talisman is coming off the back of an impressive performance against NAC Breda on the weekend where he scored twice in PSV’s 3-2 win.

How to watch and Kick Off Time

The game kicks off at 8:00 pm Wednesday evening and is available to view on Discovery+ as well as TNT Sport 3.

Prediction

With Liverpool likely to heavily rotate and PSV needing a win expect a closely competitive game with plenty of action throughout.

Our predicted scoreline for the match is PSV 1-3 Liverpool.
